Holy mother of god. We have a guest song (btw, if you want to have a song featured on the site, send me something. I won’t promise it’ll go up, but it might on those weeks when I don’t have anything new!).

So my writing partner, half of the duo I’m in: THE DOPPELGANGERS, Charles Knox is from Minneapolis. I’m from Pittsburgh. And this past weekend, the Steelers faced off with the undefeated Vikings and handed them their first loss. So obviously, in the madness that defeat provided, he wrote this “Ode to Mike Tomlin.” I present it to you in all its glory. It is incredible.

Announcements! October 27, 2009

Why have I been so MIA from making new music? Uh, because for the one thing, I’m busy. So get off my back. But another thing is that I’ve recently finished two fairly major happenings in my musical life.

Numero uno:

I finished an EP with emcee Charles Knox from Los Angeles. We’ve actually been working on and off on this EP for over a year, passing the files back and forth, nitpicking each other’s verses, phasing in and out of hating and loving each other. The final product is a pretty cohesive product that we’re both pretty proud of. Check it out, 8 songs total, all original production, all completely for free. DOWNLOAD IT BY CLICKING THE PIC ABOVE.

Numero dos:

I have officially signed the producer/DJ for the full album project that this site was created for. I was introduced to Ruckus Roboticus (which is in fact his legal name*) through my good friend DJ Empirical, and immediately fell in love with having the name Adam Warrock & Ruckus Roboticus for this project. Well turns out, he’s a pretty amazing DJ and producer as well. I’m a huge fan of his album, Playing with Scratches, as well as this sick rooftop performance that he put on in Ohio:

We’ve begun planning out the album. He plans to produce all original beats for the album, and will be producing and mastering the final tracks for professional release. He’s a great guy, a fantastic producer, and everyone should definitely check him out. So while you’re at it, check his stuff out at his website and support my boy, or download the album Playing with Scratches.

For now, keep checking out War Rocket Ajax, The People You Don’t Know Podcast, and listen to the track I posted here yesterday in honor of Halloween. And more announcement to come as soon as I figure out what I’m doing about the REST of the affiliated stuff with this album. That’s right, not just an album, but more? Stay tuned to find out.

In honor of Halloween, I give you my special song “The Chase.” I think it pretty much speaks for itself. I have some announcements to make, but I’m going to wait for later in the week to get something proper together. Sorry it’s been so long since I got a new song up. Enjoy this one and get in the spirit of the season! With murder!

More beef tracks against Awesomed by Comics. Yes, that’s a direct rip off from “Ms. Fat Booty” with the singing part. I’ve always loved this beat, but you can tell it’s not really my exact comfort zone with flow.

A Prince Among Thieves October 15, 2009

In case you’ve never seen the video for Prince Paul’s A Prince Among Thieves. It’s an album I became obsessed with back in the day, the whole album tells the story of two friends who get involved in the street game and then end up turning on each other. The five minute video includes clips from each of the songs in sequential order, giving you a condensed version of the entire album.

I always felt like it was heavily underrated, but listening to it now, I realize that it may not hold up as well. It’s probably not that incredibly thrilling as it was back when it first debuted, and it blew my fucking mind. But regardless, this is the inspiration and blueprint for the album project. So it deserves its credit.

WarRock TrackLog 9 – I Apologize October 14, 2009

roses

Another old track off the 2003 demo CD I made. It was my requisite soft, “love” song, even though I think the high concept gets lost on people. There’s a funny story behind this, I actually apologize first in almost every situation. I was walking with an old friend around college, and I slipped and fell on the ice in front of a girl, and I immediately stood up and said “Sorry.” And my friend made fun of me about it for days, saying “why would you apologize for falling down?” The idea stuck with me, and this song resulted. It’s a song about apologizing to a lover as the relationship ends, and evolves into somewhat of a fight, where you’re apologizing in that aggressive, angry way. Like, “Well I’M SORRY.” The concept and delivery makes up for the fact that there are a LOT of empty and lazy rhymes in this song.

I performed this at a concert and one of my very recently ex-girlfriends was in attendance, and when I performed this song, she ran out of the room crying. That’s a TRUE story. She obviously didn’t appreciate the irony of situation.

I actually have an EP coming out with my writing partner Charles Knox (I’m pretty sure that’s the name he’s going by), and I threw this track together as the bonus track off our upcoming Doppelgangers EP. You get to hear it EARLY. Our EP was pretty high concept, so I just basically really wanted to throw together a talkin’ shit track. This is apparently what I came up with.

I’ve actually battled a lot in my past, and was decent at it. I always had the ability to have that amazing opening rhyme, and then no idea where to go from there. But I can hold my own.

World Up October 14, 2009

I’ve been checking out the World Up Organization, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about international politics, and issues that affect the global community using music, hip hop, and other socially progressive cultural elements.  It’s headed by people who have a deep, passionate love of music and hip hop, and everyone’s dedicated to real, social progressive change. I’m digging their style and mission. Check it out.

Two new tracks on the Tracklog are going up tonight: one old, one new, as I’m planning on doing daily or sorta-daily for the grand roll out of this site. Check it later.

I googled “2003″ and this was the FIRST image that came up. Seriously. Why is that? In any case, this song is from an old demo I made my senior year of college (2003). For the record, I made 3 CDs in college. You would be allowed to hear one and a half of them. Seriously. That first one, holy shit, what a debacle that is. In any case, this was back when I had my home studio fully tricked out, so I was able to get my sound really nice. This was in my “must fill every single second/syllable with some sort of elaborate rhyme” writing days. I’m much simpler now. This was the “single” from that demo, even though, ironically, I could never pull it off live because of the aforementioned writing technique. And man, does that Ron Artest line in the first verse really date this song. Sigh.

Beat used – I honestly cannot even remember, someone gave it to me, I actually no joke think it was from a Korean rap group or something that my friend thought I should spit over. I obliged.

WarRock Tracklog 6 – Empty Calories October 13, 2009

brother-ali

I make no bones about the fact that this track is me doing a Brother Ali impression. If you’ve never heard Brother Ali, realize this: he’s the only emcee who I get noticeably giddy when anything new of his drops. he’s a white muslim albino rapper who destroys worlds with his voice. I threw some flanger on the chorus to mask the fact that I’m never as good a singer as I think I am when I do it on record. Some of the delivery in this is rough. But overall, I’m still very proud of it.

Oh, the title. I set out to write a song about living life to the fullest, and was going to incorporate the term “empty calories” into the chorus as a metaphor for wasted seconds of your life. I wrote the whole thing and never used it, and just grew attached to the song title. So…I just kept it.
